Kluai hom, or hom banana, is a small, fragrant banana with a soft, sweet flesh. The name means fragrant banana, and the scent is part of the appeal. It is a simple fruit for breakfast, a snack bag or a dessert.
Ways to use it
- Peel and eat as it is, once the skin is fully yellow.
- Slice onto rice porridge, yogurt or toast.
- Mash into pancake batter or a quick cake.
- Fry in a little coconut oil until golden for a warm dessert.
- Slice and serve with coconut cream.
Storing it
Bananas keep ripening after harvest, so a firm one can sit on the counter until it is ready. Cold is hard on tropical fruit, and bananas can show damage after a day at 5 degrees Celsius, so keep them out of the fridge while they ripen. To speed ripening, place the fruit in a loosely folded paper bag. Wash the skin under running water before peeling, so surface dirt is not carried in on your fingers.
Where it comes from
Grown to certified organic standards. The certificate for each lot is shown when you trace your pack.
Every pack will carry a lot code. Enter it on the Trace your pack page and you will see the farms in that lot, the harvest date and the certificate.
Cook with it.
