Red seedless grapes grow in loose bunches of oval berries, pinkish red to deep red, often with a thin, dusty white bloom on the skin. The bloom is natural and rinses off. Bite into one and the skin snaps, the flesh is firm and juicy, and there are no seeds to get in the way. The taste is sweet with a light tartness. Grapes don't ripen any further once they're cut from the vine, so a sour bunch stays sour.

Ways to use it

  • Eat them cold, straight from the bunch.
  • Freeze washed, dried grapes on a tray for a cold snack on a hot afternoon.
  • Halve them into a chicken or green salad.
  • Roast them briefly with a little oil until they soften and burst, then serve them with grilled meat or cheese.
  • Thread them onto skewers with other fruit for a party plate.

Storing it

Leave grapes on the stem and unwashed, and keep them in the fridge. Washing them before storing leaves water on the skins, and they go soft and mouldy sooner. Pick out any split or mouldy grapes first. When you're ready to eat them, rinse the bunch under running water and let it drain.
